Notice of the 3^rd Xiamen University “Discover China” Chinese Language Contest for International Students & the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China” Category (Preliminary and Intermediate Rounds)

为诠释中华优秀文化内涵，彰显中华语言文化魅力，提升国际学生的汉语语言文字应用能力，推动中华文化更好走向世界，我校拟举办第三届厦门大学“慧识中国”国际学生汉语应用大赛暨第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动来华留学生组初、中级阶段相关活动。相关事项通知如下：

Xiamen University (XMU) is organizing the 3^rdXiamen University “Discover China” Chinese Language Contest for International Students and the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China”Category (Preliminary and Intermediate Rounds). This event aims to delve into the depths of Chinese cultural heritage, highlight the charm of the Chinese language and culture, enhance the Chinese language proficiency of international students, and promote the global dissemination of Chinese culture. The following notice provides details about this upcoming event:

一、大赛主题

I. Theme

来华留学生结合在华学习生活经历，积极发现生活中的中国元素，用中文讲中国故事，通过语言、文字等方式展示所见所闻所感。

Drawing on their experiences of studying and living in China, international students are encouraged to actively seek out Chinese elements in their daily lives, narrate stories of China in Chinese and express their observations and experiences through both spoken and written language.

厦门大学全体在校国际学生（含研究生、本科生、进修生）

All XMU international students (including graduate students, undergraduate students and short-term program participants).

本次大赛分为演讲比赛和汉字书写（硬笔书法）比赛两个项目。其中，演讲比赛将同时作为第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动（来华留学生组）的中级阶段选拔赛，所有报名参加第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动（来华留学生组）并晋级中级阶段的选手都要参加本次演讲比赛，此前未报名参加“用英语讲中国故事”活动的同学也可直接参加本次“慧识中国”演讲比赛。

This event comprises two segments: the Speech Contest and the Chinese Character Writing (Hard-Pen Calligraphy) Contest. Notably, the Speech Contest will also serve as the intermediate round selection for the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China” Category. All participants who have advanced to the intermediate round of this event are required to participate in this Speech Contest. Additionally, students who did not register for the “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge are also welcome to directly enter the “Discover China” Speech Contest.

（一）演讲

Speech Contest

1. 初级阶段报名及作品要求（暨第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动来华留学生组初级阶段）

1. Registration and Submission Requirements of Preliminary Round (the Preliminary Round of the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China” Category)

（1）作品要求

a. Submission Requirements

选手从 3 种形式自选 1 种形式来准备作品， 三种形式分别是“朗诵、 自我介绍、 故事撰写和朗读”。具体要求和参考资料可详见附件。

Participants are to select one of the three competition formats for their submissions: “Recitation,” “Self-Introduction” and “Story Writing & Retelling”. Further details and reference information can be found in Appendix.

选手面对镜头拍摄，模拟舞台现场拍摄不超过 1.5 分钟的视频，在线提交视频作品。

Participants are required to film themselves as if they were onthe real stage, creating videos no longer than 1.5 minutes in duration. Videos must then be submitted online.

录制建议：作品须由选手本人展示，注意展示过程中请勿透露个人信息（姓名、学校名称或校服校徽等）；如用手机拍摄，建议优先采用横屏，展示上半身及完整肢体语言，以便获得更高的画面质量更高，更有机会入选特色选手宣传视频集锦；视频录制可自行准备背景、 PPT、服装道具等来辅助模拟现。磺氩灰谧髌分刑砑庸愀婺谌、雷同内容或抄袭作品等涉嫌作弊等不规范内容。

Video Recording Guidelines: Participants must present themselves in the videos submitted, ensuring no personal information (such as personal name, school name or school uniform and logos) is revealed during the presentation. When recording with a mobile phone, it is recommended to use the landscape modeto ensure higher video quality, and particpants should aim to showcasetheir upper body and full body language. High-quality videos have a chance to be selected for the promotional highlight reel. Participants may prepare their own backgrounds, PPT, costumes and props to create a stage-like environment for their presentation. It is important to avoid any form of advertising, having identical content to others, plagiarism,or any other misconduct.

（4）评审结果：初级阶段评审结束后，选手可通过微信群或微信公众号查看晋级结果，晋级中级阶段选手可进入“慧识中国”演讲比赛决赛。

d. Assessment Results: Following the preliminary assessment, participants can view the results via the WeChat group or WeChat Official Account “CHN Stories.” Those who advance to the next level will qualify for the finals of the “Discover China” Speech Contest.

2、演讲比赛决赛（暨第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动来华留学生组中级阶段）

2. Finals of Speech Contest (Intermediate Round of  the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China” Category)

（1）时间：2024年5月中旬

a. Time: Mid-May 2024

（2）要求：选手从给出的主题列表中选定 1 个主题，准备中国文化特色的介绍，并在现场面对观众用中文演讲，时长为 2 分钟以上，且不超过 3 分钟。可选主题将在中级阶段晋级名单出来后公布。

b. Requirements: Participants must select one topic from the provided list, prepare an introduction highlighting Chinese culture and present it in Chinese to a live audience. The speech should be a minimum of 2 minutes but must not exceed 3 minutes in duration. The list of available topics will be announced following the release of advancement list for the intermediate round.

（3）奖项设置：

c. Awards

一等奖：2名，奖金800元及获奖证书

二等奖：3名，奖金500元及获奖证书

三等奖：5名，奖金300元及获奖证书

优秀奖：10名，奖品及获奖证书

First Prize: 2 winners, prize money 800RMB and award certificates

Second Prize: 3 winners, prize money 500RMB and award certificates

Third Prize: 5 winners, prize money 300RMB and award certificates

Excellence Award: 10 winners, prize money and award certificates

（4）比赛表现优异者且已报名参加第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动（来华留学生组）的选手将被推荐进入第四届“用英语讲中国故事”活动高级阶段比赛。同时可获得由第四届”用英语讲中国故事“活动组委会官方认证的荣誉证书。

d. Outstanding performers who have registered for the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China” Category will be recommended to the advance to the final stages of the competition. Additionally, they will also be rewarded with official certificates of honor from the Organizing Committee of the 4^th “Stories of China Retold in English” Challenge for the “International Students in China” Category.

（二）汉字书写（硬笔书法）

Chinese Character Writing (Hard-Pen Calligraphy) Contest

（1）线下比赛时间：2024年5月中旬

a. Offline Competition Date: Mid-May 2024

（2）线上参赛者请于2024年5月10日之前，将参赛作品（需署名）以PDF形式发送至gjzwjy@163.com，邮件主题命名格式为：姓名+专业+书法+作品名称。同时需提供书写比赛的现场视频、照片等，以保证作品的真实性。

b. Online Participants should submit their signed entries in PDF format to gjzwjy@163.com no later than May 10, 2024. The subject of the email should be: Participant Name + Field of Study + Calligraphy + Title of Work. To ensure the authenticity of the submissions, participants are also required to include live videos and photographs of their participation in the competition.

由组织单位提供选题，参赛选手可提前练习，比赛现场在规定时间内完成一幅作品。

Participants may practice the topics for competition provided by the Organizing Committee in advance and they are required to complete a piece of work within the prescribed timeframe during the event.

一等奖：1名，奖金500元及获奖证书

二等奖：2名，奖金300元及获奖证书

三等奖：3名，奖金200元及获奖证书

五、注意事项

1. 参赛作品须为原创。

1. Original works are required;

2. 大赛组委会享有对参赛作品展示、汇编、发行及网络传播等权利，参赛者享有署名权。

2. The Organizing Committee has the right to display, compile, publish and disseminate the works online and participants have the right of authorship.
