The curriculum targets at developing students’ language proficiency. And we aim to provide customized curriculum in accordance with students' language levels, learning purposes and cognitive styles.

Xiamen University
Xiamen University (XMU) , established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education.
History: Founded in 1956, Overseas Education College (OEC) was one of the earliest institutions in China to offer Chinese language programs for overseas students.
Faculty: With TCFL education background, OEC’s faculty members boast profound knowledge of their major disciplines and high level of teaching, and they have rich experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language abroad.
The college has diversified and multi-leveled categories of teaching. In the past 66 years, the college has brought up about 60,000 talents of all kinds, and its co-built Confucius institutes overseas have a total of over 200,000 registered students.

Courses
1. Compulsory Chinese courses: Comprehensive Chinese, Oral Chinese, Chinese Listening in 4 levels—A level (elementary), B level (intermediate), C level (advanced), D level (upper-advanced). Students can select appropriate levels based on their self-assessment.
2. Optional Chinese courses: HSK Tutorials, Chinese Idioms and Their Stories, Chinese Reading, Chinese Composition, Chinese History, Chinese Folk Culture.
Note: Actual course structure is subject to adjustment.

Class Schedules & Class Hours
From Monday to Friday. The specific class time may be scheduled with the students’ time zone taken into account. Classes of different grades or levels may have different schedules.

Application Requirements
1. Non-Chinese citizens overseas.
2. In good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct.
3. With strong motivation or interest in learning Chinese, dedicated to the Chinese language education and related work.
4. Between the ages of 16 and 35 (as of September 1st, 2022).

Scholarship Categories & Qualifications
Chinese Language (one year): With minimum score of 210 on HSK test (level 3).
Chinese Language (one semester): An HSK test score is required.

Scholarship Coverage
Applicants who meet the admission requirements can participate in the online teaching program of International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship without tuition.

Before I started taking the online courses of Xiamen University, I thought that it would be hard for me to learn Chinese well. However, I have learned Chinese much more in this semester than I did at school for years. The teachers here have not only conducted their classes quite well, but also always answered our questions well. Besides, the teachers also have helped us get to know other students well though it is not easy for us to exchange ideas with them in person. I am very grateful to them. On the whole, Xiamen University has completely changed my view about online teaching: I used to say that online courses were rather boring and it was difficult to learn anything. Now I want to say that online courses are very convenient and complete. Thanks to Xiamen University, I have made great progress in my Chinese learning.

First I feel very regretful that all the courses I have taken this semester have been only delivered online. I have been longing to meet our teachers and classmates in person, and want to listen to lessons in classrooms, but I cannot. It is a great pity.
