米博体育8383:“Learning Chinese to Understand China” Admissions Guide For 2023 Summer Chinese Language Training Course

The Summer Chinese language training course under the theme of Learning Chinese to Understand Chinaat Xiamen University is open to all Chinese language enthusiasts. It aims to develop studentsoral communication skills and provide multiple learning platforms such as Chinese language training, cultural lectures, cultural experiences, and enterprise visits.

Project Features

The project combines language learning and cultural experience, which can not only rapidly improve studentsoral Chinese communication ability, but also enable them to fully understand Chinese economy, history, culture, and society. The project also features rich cultural experience and field visits to local enterprises.

I. Class Time

From July 3rd to July 28th, 2023, a total of four weeks. Classes are held from Monday to Friday.

II. Potential Trainees and Class Size

Classes are open to all levels of Chinese learners from beginner to elementary, intermediate, and advanced. Class of each level starts with minimum 10 students.

III. Curriculum and Activity Arrangement

Before all the classes start, we will arrange a Chinese proficiency test to divide classes according to the test results and design appropriate teaching content based on the traineesChinese language proficiency.

The curriculum includes three sections:

1.Chinese language learning (Monday to Friday morning)

Courses: Comprehensive Chinese Language, Listening, Speaking, and Writing Chinese Characters, focusing on developing studentsoral communication skills. The learning content is mainly related to topics such as daily life, learning, and communication.

Chinese Comprehension

The courses mainly focus on improving traineescomprehensive Chinese communicative abilities, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and will help them have a good command of Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, and further understand Chinese cultural knowledge related to Chinese communication.

Spoken Chinese

The courses aim to help trainees use Chinese to solve problems that are closely related to Chinese learning and daily life, and to communicate with others on relevant topics. Trainees are expected to master and apply Chinese communication skills and oral expressions, and possess certain communication strategies and skills.

Chinese Listening

The courses aim to enable trainees to understand language materials closely related to language learning and daily life.

Chinese Characters

The courses aim to help trainees read and write Chinese characters, and understand the basic knowledge of Chinese characters such as strokes, radicals, and orthography, as well as the knowledge of Chinese language and Chinese culture

2. Situational Practice and Cultural Experience (Monday to Friday afternoon)

(1) Chinese situational dialogues (twice a week).

(2) Lectures on Chinese economy, culture, traditional Chinese medicine, guqin, etc. (once a week).

(3) Chinese traditional culture experience (such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, Chinese tea culture, Chinese traditional clothing (Hanfu) experience, Chinese martial arts (Kung fu), etc.) (twice a week).

3.Cultural Field Visits

Field visits to Xiamen local scenic spots or enterprises; tours to other places in Fujian Province, such as Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Longyan or Wuyi Mountain, with a minimum group size of 15 people and expenses to be covered by the participants.

V. Certificate Presentation

A Certificate of Completion in Continuing Education will be presented by Xiamen University

VI. Eligibility for Application

1. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens (overseas Chinese included) aged between 18 and 55, be mentally and physically healthy, and possess a valid regular passport. (Note: we can assist the applicants with a valid regular passport to apply for an appropriate China visa).

2. Applicants shall hold high school diploma or above or equivalent professional qualification.

VII. Application Documents Required

1.ID photo;

2.A scanned copy of the first page of the passport (ordinary passport, valid at least until October 31st, 2023).

3.Photocopies of certificates for highest education and transcripts, and notarized copies in English or Chinese.

4.A photocopy of the HSK certificate (if available).

5.Physical Examination Record for Inbound Travellers, completed in Chinese or English, bearing the stamp of the hospital. Physical examination results are valid for 6 months.

6.Certificate of No Criminal Record. Applicants shall submit a valid Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by the local police, usually within 6 months before the date of submission of the application.

VIII. Application in Group

Application in group is available for a group of at least 15 applicants. Tuition fees, courses, and time can be agreed upon by both parties.

Accommodation Fees (Optional): Xiang'an Campus On-campus Student Dormitory - 500 yuan/person/month (twin room); Xiang'an Campus On-campus Hotel (subject to price adjustment made by hotels).
